MIRCRODERMABRASION Microdermabrasion
has been used successfully for years to treat the face for early signs
of aging, sun damage and other subtle facial imperfections. It
stimulates collagen production to yield healthy, youthful-looking skin.
This simple treatment is scarsless. It can also be used to address dry
scaly skin on other body parts such as neck, legs, and hands.
When
you look in the mirror do you feel your skin is as soft and fresh as you
want it to be ?
What is Microdermabrasion ? Microdermabrasion
is an exciting medical technique that removes the topmost layer of skin
by gently removing the skin using natural diamond chips while at the
same time vacumming the dead skin cells away in a sterile and controlled
manner. An immediate improvement can be noticed with even the first
treatment, however best results are achieved with a dedicated series of
at least 5 treatments.
What can micro-dermabrasion treat ? Microdermabrasion
is effective in rejuvenating skin health and is ideal treatment for : »
Removal of blackheads & whiteheads » Hyperpigmentation
» Acne scars » Aging fine lines » Age spots »
Sun damaged skin
What is the treatment like ? We
promote skin renewal with the aid of the delicate metal wand. The wand
combines the gentle action of aluminium oxide crystals with the
cleansing action of vacuum, removing the outermost layer of dead skin
cells to reveal a softer, smoother and cleaner skin. Each treatment may
vary from 30 minutes to an hour.
The number of treatments
recommended for maximal results can range between 5 and 12, spaced from
2 to 3 weeks apart. Microdermabrasion may be combined with a light
chemical peel to increase the effect.

ACNE SCAR
MANAGEMENT Acne is something that most of us have
experienced at one time or another. Acne occurs when the oil produced by
the sebaceous gland does not reach the surface of the skin but is
trapped in the hair follicle. This is followed by bacterial colonization
of the follicle with ensuing inflammation. This forms plugs; plugs may
close off the pores, causing the pores to bulge, which creates a
whitehead. If the pore stays open, the top surface of the plug may
become darkened, causing a blackhead. When the bacteria and pus leak
from the pore into the surrounding tissue, pimples are formed. Acne can
be unsightly and disfiguring. It can also lead to serious and permanent
scarring.
Myths like "only youths have acne, it will just
go away" have prevented many from seeking appropriated treatment
for years.
What are the treatments available? Fortunately,
severe and mild acne scars can be successfully treated with a range of
procedures. Your doctor will determine the severity of your acne problem
and will recommend the most suitable treatment for your acne management.
The common acne scar treatments include:
1. Laser treatment
This does not require anesthesia, as they are not painful and
there is no downtime. Depending on the type of acne scars, improvements
using laser treatment can be dramatic. The improvement is gradual and
continues to even after the treatment stops.
2.
Microdermabrasion Microdermabration, with or without Vitamin C
iontophoresis, removes the topmost layer of skin by gently removing the
skin using natural aluminium oxide crystals while at the same time
vacuuming the dead skin cells away. This gentle treatment can provide
noticeable improvement to moderate acne scars.
3. Chemical
Peels It uses a chemical solution to peel off the outer layers
of skin. It is an effective treatment for shallow acne scars. After
treatment, a smoother layer of skin is seen.
4. Soft
tissue Fillers Injectable soft tissue fillers are good
treatments for shallow and deep acne scars. These fillers can be
injected into the area of the scar, smoothing depression. Results are
immediately apparent.
5. Medicated Creams Your
doctor may select appropriate medicated creams to treat and control your
acne problems. The common acne control treatment includes antibiotics,
oral antibiotics and comedolytics.

FILLERS Facial
wrinkles and creases begin to appear with time as the underlying
collagen and elastin fibres begin to break down and wear out. While this
breakdown is part of our aging process, it can also result from
excessive facial movement. With medical advancement, a newer, safer,
biodegradable material is available for filling facial wrinkles and
frown lines, allowing you to restore the vitality of your face.
Soft
Tissue Fillers are biodegradable substances that can be injected into
the skin to smoothen wrinkles, folds, fill out hollow cheeks, improve
scars, and augment lips. Hyaluronic acid is a synthetic, biodegradable
non-animal, stabilized gel with almost no risk of allergic reaction.
Like collagen, it is a natural and basic component of human skin.
What
areas can be treated with fillers? The most common areas are
the glabellar lines (between the eyebrows), the nasolabial folds (from
the root of the nose to the angle of the mouth) and the lips but also
other sites can be treated.
How long does it take? A
filler treatment is a very easy and quick process. Since no pre-testing
is needed, the treatment can be done immediately. It takes about 15
minutes and the results are instant.
Is the injection Safe?
Yes, since hyaluronic acid is naturally present in the body,
the skin does not react to the material. These may consist of prolonged
but temporary redness, swelling, itching or tenderness. Most have lasted
for a couple of weeks.
How long does it last? Hyaluronic
acid eventually totally disappears from the body. How long the effect
the treatment lasts is variable. For the majority of the patients after
a wrinkle treatment about 50-80% of the effect remains after 6 months
and most people choose to have a touchup treatment done within a year of
the original treatment. For lip augmentation, a new treatment is needed
after about 6 months.
While the effect is long-lasting, it is
not permanent. You always have the freedom to choose to continue or
change the combination of your treatment. |
CHEMICAL
PEELING Chemical peels use a new generation of fruit acids
(e.g.) AHA, BHA, PHA) formulations that are topically applied onto the
treatment area. This "rejuvenates" your skin surface by
creating an even and controlled shedding of the topmost layer of the
skin, the stratum corneum. This allows new layers to be exposed and
creates a "fresh" appearance to the skin surface. In addition,
skin cells and collagen are stimulated, creating a more even tone. Is
has proven to be a very popular non-surgical cosmetic procedure.
What
can a chemical peel do ? Chemical peeling can be used to
treat » Fine lines, at areas under the eyes and round the
mouth. » Wrinkles caused by sun damage or aging »
Uneven pigmentation » Shallow acne scars » Age spots
What
are the Benefits ? » No sedation or anaesthetic is
needed » Sometimes a single treatment will give your skin a
healthier, radiant look. » " No downtime you can
immediately resume normal activities.
What is the
treatment like ? Chemical peels can be performed on the
face, neck, chest, and hands and customized to your skin requirements.
After applying on the face, there will be a slight stinging sensation
after treatment.
What should you expect after
treatment ? Superficial peeling may cause redness,
followed by peeling that lasts from 5 to 7 days. It is important to
avoid overexposure to the sum immediately after a chemical peel since
the skin is delicate. Your physician will prescribe appropriate
follow-up care to help the skin heal.

BOTULINUMTOXIN Every
time you smile, laugh or frown, the contractions of the delicate
underlying facial muscles form wrinkles, which invariably become more
accentuated over the years. Repeated frowning and smiling leaves deep
wrinkles between the eyebrows and on the bridge of your nose, across the
forehead, and at the corners of your eyes. Now, a simple, non-surgical
procedure is available at the physician's office which can remedy these
wrinkles. One 10 minute procedure, a few tiny injections, relaxes the
muscles that cause those lines to form and keeps them relaxed from 4-6
months. You now can truly appreciate life without wrinkles !
What
is Botulinum Toxin ? Botulinum toxin is purified protein
produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium. It causes reversible
relaxation of these facial muscles. Very low doses of the medication are
administered via a few tiny injections directly into the overactive
muscles that cause lines to form.
After the treatment, the
overlying skin remains smooth, while the untreated facial muscles
contract in a normal fashion, allowing normal facial expression to be
unaffected.
What areas can treated with botulinum
toxin ? Botulinum toxin can be injected directly into the
muscles or areas to treat : Vertical lines between eyebrow and on
the bridge of the nose. Squint lines or crows feet at the corners of
the eyes. Horizontal forehead lines. "turkey neck" -
the muscle bands on the neck Square jaws due to enlarged jaw muscles
Body odour due to excessive underarm sweating.
How
long does it take ? Only a trained healthcare professional
like your aesthetic physician and dermatologist should administer the
injection. The procedure usually takes about 10 minutes.
Is
it Painful ? The pain associated with the injection is
minimal. Most patients compare the sensation to an ant bite. No
sedations or anaesthesia is required.
How soon can I
see results ? The injection takes takes effect about 3 to
7 days after treatment.
Are there any side effects ?
Temporary bruising at the injection site is an occasional
side effect. This subsides in 5 to 7 days. In some cases, it can cause
headache, nausea and temporary weakness of nearby muscle. In rare cases,
there can be a drooping of an eyelid or asymmetry of facial expression.
However, these side effects are totally reversible after the effects
wear out.
How long does it last ? While
the effect is long -lasting, it is not permanent. The treatment usually
lasts for up to 6 months. You need to have injections about 2 to 3 times
a year. After receiving injection over time, there appears to be a
longer lasting effect.
