Yoga during pregnancy is very important for maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Yoga helps in strengthening the joints and muscles and calms the mind during pregnancy. In this special period, yoga helps in maintaining body changes and also helps in the normal delivery by controlling excessive weight gain during pregnancy.

There are a number of side effects of excessive weight gain during pregnancy like gestational diabetes, preeclampsia (excessive high BMI), lack of sleep, the risk of birth defects, labour problem, etc. General weight gain during pregnancy is about 25 to 37 pounds, however, with the help of yoga, weight can be maintained and it helps in avoiding many pregnancy complications:

  • Lowers Stress – Yoga also helps in lowering the stress by keeping the mind calm and also induces a sense of relaxation. Because stress can cause excessive weight gain during pregnancy and also cause high craving in fats and sugar, yoga helps in keeping the mind calm.
  • Keeps your heart healthy – Yoga increases cardiovascular endurance for increasing cardiac efficiency. It helps in maintaining proper circulation and also helps in preventing swelling in foot and hands.
  • Maintains your BMI – Yoga helps in maintaining the basal metabolic rate (BMI). With adequate BMI the risk of high blood pressure decreases and also excessive weight gain is avoided.
  • Improves your sleep cycle – Yoga helps in improving the sleep cycle. Because inadequate sleep can cause excessive weight gain during pregnancy, with the help of yoga, you are able to take proper sleep, making your body feel lighter and active.
  • Aids digestion – Yoga also helps in the proper digestion and removal of waste products from the body by improving digestion and absorption of food.
  • Keeps fatigue away – Yoga helps in keeping active and fresh through the day and also helps in preventing excessive weight gain during pregnancy. Yoga keeps your mind active mind and the body fit, with the help of this you do not feel lethargic and also avoid early fatigue.
  • Keeps hormones balanced – Yoga helps in controlling hormonal imbalance which helps in controlling mood swings, overstress and depression, etc. With this craving for fat and sugar is controlled.
