Joint pain could be a result of an injury that affected any ligament, tendons or bursae. Injuries may also affect cartilage, ligaments & bones in the joint. Pain is also a result of joint inflammation i.e. arthritis like rheumatoid arthritis & osteoarthritis & infection and in extreme rarity could also be a cause of cancer of joints. Pain in the joint is a very common reason for shoulder pain, knee pain & ankle pain. Joint pain is alternatively known as arthralgia. STDSs or sexually transmitted diseases such as gonorrhea & chlamydia could result in joint pain.

RA or Rheumatoid Arthritis

RA or Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease which leads to chronic joint inflammation. Autoimmune diseases are the ailments which take place when our body’s tissues get mistakenly attacked by own immune system. Immune system comprises of the complex organization of antibodies & cells designed normally for seeking & destroying invaders of the body, mainly the infections. Patients having the autoimmune disease have the antibodies & the immune cells within their blood which target their own body’s tissues where they could be linked with inflammation. While the inflammation of tissue around joints & inflammatory arthritis is the characteristic features of rheumatoid arthritis, this disease could also lead to extra-articular inflammation & injuries in the other body organs. As it may affect multiple body organs, rheumatoid arthritis is known as systematic ailment & is also said rheumatoid disease.

Osteoarthritis is a kind of arthritis which features breakdown & eventual loss of cartilage of 1 or more joints. A cartilage is a protein substance which serves as a cushion between bones of our joints, Osteoarthritis is the most common disease of joints, in among over 100 different kinds of arthritis conditions.

Symptoms & Signs linked to joint pain may include:

  • Joint redness
  • Joint tenderness
  • Joint swelling
  • Joint warmth
  • Locking of joint
  • Limping
  • Loss of range of motions of our joint
  • Locking of the joints
  • Weakness
  • stiffness
