Loose motions—also known as diarrhea—can drain your energy, disrupt your day, and leave you feeling miserable. Whether caused by infection, food poisoning, or an upset stomach, you want one thing: quick and safe relief.

Thankfully, you don’t always need antibiotics or over-the-counter pills. Some of the best remedies are already available in your kitchen. In this blog, we’ll share 3 effective homemade remedies to stop loose motions fast, along with tips on what to eat, what to avoid, and when to see a doctor.

What Are Loose Motions?

Loose motions mean passing watery stools more than three times a day. It is your body’s way of flushing out something harmful, but it can lead to dehydration and weakness if not managed properly.

Common causes:

  • Food poisoning
  • Bacterial or viral infections
  • Contaminated water or food
  • Sudden diet changes
  • Stress or anxiety
  • Certain medicines (like antibiotics)

Symptoms of loose motions:

  • Frequent watery stools
  • Stomach pain or cramps
  • Weakness and fatigue
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Bloating or gas
  • Dehydration
  • Sometimes mild fever

When Should You Worry?

While most cases of diarrhea get better within 1–2 days, seek medical help if:

  • You have blood in stools
  • You feel dizzy or faint (signs of dehydration)
  • You haven’t urinated for over 6 hours
  • Loose motions continue for more than 3 days
  • You have high fever with chills
  • It’s a baby, elderly person, or pregnant woman experiencing it

3 Fast and Effective Homemade Remedies for Loose Motions

  • Avoid flavored or sweetened curd.

Stay Hydrated

One of the biggest dangers of loose motions is dehydration. Your body loses fluids, salts, and minerals rapidly.

What to drink:

  • ORS (Oral Rehydration Solution) every 2–3 hours
  • Coconut water
  • Lemon water with a pinch of salt and sugar
  • Rice water (kanji)
  • Clear soups or broths

Avoid tea, coffee, milk, aerated drinks, and alcohol during this time.
