Cancers that start in women’s reproductive system are called gynecological cancers. There are five kinds of gynecological cancers including womb, ovarian, cervical, vaginal and vulval.
The most common symptom across some of the gynaecological cancers is abnormal vaginal bleeding. Ovarian and cervical cancers are the most common gynecological cancers affecting women worldwide and in India. Though cervical cancer is on a declining trend, remains the second most common cancer in women after breast cancer. Every year in India, 122,844 women are diagnosed with cervical cancer and 67,477 die from this disease.
As developing countries like India has lack of cancer awareness, variable pathology, and dearth of proper screening facilities, most women report at advanced stages that adversely affect the prognosis and clinical outcomes. For treating such cancers in advanced, oncologist suggests surgeries like Minimal Access Surgeries, Laparoscopic Surgeries, Robotic Surgeries and Major Open Surgeries. Other surgeries performed in the major OT include hysteroscopic procedures like endometrial biopsies, polypectomies and EUA and biopsies for some patients requiring disease assessment and clinical staging.
