Liver Cancer
One of the basic functions of the liver is to filter the blood that circulates throughout our body. Since the liver is the organ through which all the blood of our body must pass, it can be affected by the cancer cells that travel in our bloodstream.
When the liver gets affected by the cancer cells directly, then the condition is known as liver cancer. However, in most of the cases, liver cancer is secondary or metastatic, which means the root of the disease is somewhere else. Liver cancer is more common in people over 50 years of age. It is the 10th most common type of cancer among men.
Signs and Symptoms
This disease can have no symptoms at all, but in some cases, the patient may feel
- Pain in abdomen area
- Cancer-related fatigue
- Fever and loss of appetite
- Nausea, vomiting, and fluid in the abdomen
- Lump in the abdomen along with yellow skin and eyes
Causes & Risk Factors
Hepatocellular carcinoma or primary liver cancer can be caused due to birth defects, alcohol abuse or chronic infection because of diseases like hepatitis B, and C. Most of the people diagnosed with this disease have cirrhosis which is a fatal condition of liver because of alcohol abuse.
Low Cost Treatment and Management
Thermal ablation is a process in which heat is used to kill the cancer cells. Apart from that, there can be surgeries to remove the part of the liver which is damaged due to this disease.
