This is the type of cancer that can happen when abnormal cells grow inside one or both of your ovaries. These are the small glands that are located on the either sides of the uterus.
Ovarian cancer mainly grows in the tissues that cover the ovaries, and it is known as Epithelial ovarian cancer, which is the most usual type of this category. Generally, it can be found in women who are in their past menopause.
Signs and Symptoms
The most obvious signs of ovarian cancer that you can feel at the early stage include;
- Pain in the belly or pelvis
- Feeling full quickly while eating
- Frequent bloating
- Abnormal need to urinate
- Back pain
- Pain while doing intercourse
- Changes in the cycle of menstruation
However, these symptoms can be found in women who do not have ovarian cancer too. There is a certain pattern of having these early symptoms.
- They start suddenly in your body
- They are not normal menstrual or digestive issues
- You can feel them almost every day and cannot be treated by general medicines.
Causes & Risk Factors
Although, the growth of abnormal cells in the ovaries is the common cause of this cancer but the exact cause of that growth is still unexplained. Women who have close family members who have such cancer remain in the high-risk zone. Women over 65 years of age have more chance to get this disease.
Treatment and Management
Surgery, radiation as well as chemotherapy may be used to treat and control the growth of abnormal cells. However, it completely depends on the stage of the ailment. Ovarian cancer at its final stage can be fatal.
