Stomach Cancer
When the inner lining of your stomach gets cancer cells, then it is called stomach cancer. A tumor can be formed by those abnormal cells. However, stomach cancer is also known as gastric cancer, and the growth of this disease is slower than its other counterparts. In general, it takes many years to form cancer inside the stomach.
Normally, men get more affected by this type of cancer than women all over the world.
Signs and Symptoms
At the early stage stomach cancer can cause
- Slight nausea
- Loss of appetite
- Indigestion
- Heartburn
- Filling bloated after having your meal
At the advanced level, you can feel
- Stomach pain
- Have blood in your stool
- Vomiting
- Unexplained weight loss
- Constipation or diarrhea
- Extreme weakness
- Trouble in swallowing
- Yellowish skin and eyes
Causes & Risk Factors
The cancer scientists do not know why stomach cancer happens. However, they know the things that can increase the risk of having the cancer cells inside your stomach. The risk factors include
- Smoking
- Type-A blood
- A diet includes smoked and salty or spicy foods
- Being obese
- Stomach surgery for ulcer
- Working in coal, rubber, timber and metal industries
- Excessive exposure to asbestos
Treatment and Management
Many treatments can be tried to fight against stomach cancer. Surgery is one of them. In some cases, the surgery is done not to remove the tumor, but the put a stent to keep the pathway open for allowing the foods to get in and out from the stomach. Apart from that chemotherapy can also be tried.
