When testicles have abnormal growth of cells, then it is called testicular cancer. If it is diagnosed at the early stage, then it is totally curable. The testes are the male sex organs where sperms are stored. They are situated in two pouches below the penis, and those pouches are known as scrotum.
Though it is a rare type of disease, but this is the most common type of cancer among the young men all over the world. In general, cells that develop sperms are the source of testicular cancers, and they are known as the germ cells. Seminomas and nonseminomas are two testicular germ cell cancers. The first one grows slowly, and radiation therapy can cure it. The other one spread and grow faster than seminomas, and it is hard to control and treat the same.
Signs and Symptoms
- A painful or painless lump or swelling in the scrotum
- A heavy feeling in that particular area
- Having a dull pain or feeling of pressure in the lower belly
Causes and Risk Factors
Experts are not totally aware of the causes of testicular cancer but they are sure that having undescended testicle or Klinefelter syndrome can increase the risk of getting this ailment among young men. In general, men who have testicular cancer do not have any risk factor.
Treatment and Management
Surgery is one common treatment process for this disease and this surgery is known as orchiectomy. The doctor will remove the affected testicles in this process. After the surgery the doctor monitors the growth and the condition of the cells for few months and then decides the further treatment or care.
