Cardioversion
Cardioversion is a medical procedure which is performed to restore aberrantly fast heart rate (tachycardia) or cardiac arrhythmia to a normal heart rhythm. This is a scheduled procedure which is performed using electricity. It is done by giving electric shock to the patient by placing electrodes on the patient’s chest. It is just a day’s medical procedure and the patient can resume his normal routine on the same day itself. Sometimes, doctors perform cardioversion with the use of medications only. However, electric cardioversion takes lesser time than cardioversion done solely with drugs.
Risks associated with Cardioversion
There are rare chances of certain complications associated with cardioversion, which include:
- Some patients might experience low blood pressure after the procedure.
- In rare situations, some patients might get minor burns on their skin where electrodes were placed.
