Tattoo Removal
An general terms, tattoo removal refers to a procedure undertaken for the purpose of clearing away a tattoo from the skin. A tattoo removal may be opted for in situations where a tattoo has gone wrong, or if someone has had an unwanted tattoo. Tattoo removal is considered largely by people who have gotten a tattoo at an early age and are regretting it later due to reasons like embarrassment, or work place or just a change of choice. Infections from previous tattoo or replacement of the old tattoo with a new one could also be the reasons behind tattoo removals.
Types
The techniques that have been in use for tattoo removal include skin grafting, excision, dermabrasion, trichloroacetic acid, salabrasion and laser surgery. The non-invasive Q-switched laser technique is the most advanced and currently used method. In brief, the methods can either be surgical, laser treatments or by the use of creams and solutions.
Dermabrasion
This is an invasive surgical abrasion of the layers of the skin through the use of salt crystals, sandpapers, diamond fraise or wheel brushes which is performed by a dermatologist or a skin surgeon. This surgical method is no more in popular practice. The complications resulting from this process depend on the degree of it.
Laser treatment
The pigments in the tattoo have specific light absorption spectra. In the laser treatment, the technique used for tattoo removal is the photochemical effect where in the energy of the laser light gets rapidly absorbed by the ink particles. While propagating through the tissues in the dermis, the absorbed energy in the form of shock waves disintegrates the ink particles.
