Tilt Table Test
If you often feel lightheaded or faint for no definite reason, our doctors may perform a Tilt Table test on you. This test helps track your heart rate and blood pressure to diagnose the possible reason behind the syncopal condition. Neurocardiogenic syncope generally takes place when the part of the nervous system that controls your body’s cardiac functions is affected, affecting the heart rate and BP in other cases. This may also happen when enough blood doesn’t flow to the brain, causing nausea or unconsciousness.
Possible reasons
Unfavorable working conditions, age, medical history, injuries
Preparing for the test
- Prior to the test, the physician may advise you to avoid eating or drinking anything for breakfast or to skip particular medications.
- For the test, you will be asked to lie on a slightly angled table that moves in different directions to help catch the heart rate and BP. The table angles are altered to see how the body responds at different elevations.
- After the test, you may feel a bit tired and sick in the stomach, which typically gets alright after a few minutes. Though rare, you may also faint during or after the test.
The results
The results are either negative or positive. Negative results would mean that you’re fine and there were no problems in your heart rate or Blood pressure, however, the alternate would mean that there is a problem that needs to be further treated and looked into.
