Giving birth to a baby is not an easy task. You get worried about each and everything. Whether fruits or diet you are taking is enough and healthy for the baby? Can I exercise during pregnancy? How are you going handle you work once the baby arrives?

It is very common to have some sort of stress during pregnancy just as it happens in the normal life. In case the stress is too much and is increased it can affect your health as well as your baby’s health.

What causes outbursts in Pregnancy?

While you are stressed during pregnancy usually your body goes into flight or fight mode. This triggers the outburst of cortisol and other types of stress hormones. These are the same hormones that are released when you are in danger. These hormones lead you to prepare yourself to run by sending an explosion of fuel to your body muscles and make your heart pump faster. Also, stress and be associated with the cause of preterm delivery with high risk and low birth weight babies.

How can stress affect you in Pregnancy?

Can affect you neurologically and physically – Stress hormones cortisol when increased in circulation due to stress can also cross the placenta which further leads to change the hormones, compromising fetal development both physically and neurologically.

Can cause inflammation – It is possible to balance your body if you can overcome your stress and move on. Regular stress can alter your body’s stress management system making you to overreact and also triggering an inflammatory response.

Stress can adversely affect your pregnancy, making balance imperative in your life.

Ways to reduce stress:

If you do not stress or reduce your stress during pregnancy it can also result in the smooth postnatal period. There are few ways in which you can reduce stress such as socialising or spending quality time with family and friends or taking help of people who are around you to get some rid of daily activity stress.

There are other few ways which can help you to manage your stress like light exercises, medications, relaxation and yoga. Schedule your rest time and discuss your work plan with your employer during pregnancy can also help you to reduce your stress.

When you cannot overcome your stress and it has become overwhelming you should talk to your gynaecologist, who can further refer you to a psychologist to help you to get out of stress in your life.
