Psychiatry disorder drugs are taken by preschool kids. It is often seen that toddlers are getting prescribed for hyperactivity and anxiety without seeing a medical specialist.  Studies have shown that this medicine are approved for the use of kids and have unknown harmful effects.

Children who are behaviourally disturbed end up having more medication. The parents depend on the over the counter medication and avoid consulting a pediatric psychiatrist or family care physician for behavioral counseling.

What are psychiatric medications?

Psychiatric medications are the medications use for the treatment of mental health problem. These are used for the treatment of many mental health problems like bipolar disorder, anxiety, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), schizophrenia and psychosis. Usually, family physicians and psychiatrists prescribe these medications and are usually taken with other treatments like psychotherapy and counseling.

Every child’s response is unique:

Not all children respond same for drugs. The response depends on a child’s sex, body size, age and diet and another type of medications. Each child responds differently to different types of drugs. This includes relief, side effects, and doses.

Mental health problems affect about 1 in 10 children. It includes anxiety, depression and conduct disorder. Emotional wellbeing is equally important as physical health. Major depression is seen in school kids; moreover, anxiety is a disorder is very common in small children. Mostly it is related to lack of socialization.

Sometimes a child has co-occurring disorders, then they should be treated for the diagnosis. Just treating alcohol abuse and other drug abuse or any other addiction cannot alone help. The underlying issues need t to be understood and a comprehensive treatment plan is necessary.
