How to ensure that your children exercise

Children mostly spend lots of time nowadays glued to mobile devices or in front of the T.V. This sedentary life style of children does not let children to practice their emerging motor skills and strengthening their heart, lungs, and muscle through exercising which leads to obesity.


Life style modification helps in keeping children healthy. Actively participating with your children in exercising helps both paretn as well as child to stay healthy and fit.
Key benefits of exercising of children are:
1. Stronger muscle and bones
2. Leaner bodies
3. Lesser risk of becoming overweight
4. Lower blood pressure and blood cholesterol level
5. A better outlook of life
Make sure your child’s equipment and chosen side for the sport or activity are safe. Make sure child’s clothing is comfortable and appropriate at the time of exercising.
Limit screen time- Ensure that kids get no more than 1-2 hours of screen time a day, weather that’s watching T.V, surfing the internet, or playing videogames. Encourage activity such as shooting hoops in the local playground, playing outdoor games, running or walking the dog.
Help your child find a sport that he/she enjoys the most. This will ensure dedication & active engagement of your child. Entire family should be made accountable to ensure child is actively engaged in some or the other form of exercise.
Go for pre or post dinner walks with your child. It is similar to performing physical exercise.
Crank up the music and let your child dance to the tunes for atleast 30mins a day.
Encourage stairs climbing than lift/escalator walk.
Have a weekly sports night- Every Saturday for example, get everyone up and create a series of playing cards featuring family- friendly exercise such as ape-walking. Each family member picks a card and performs the exercise pictured until the entire cards have been dealt.
Team up for gardening- Kids is great at digging up dirt, so let them turn over the soil and help you plant new bulbs. Gardening is as good as weight training when it comes to preventing osteoporosis.
