Nausea and vomiting can be the first sign of pregnancy. More than 60% of pregnant women experience morning sickness. Morning sickness refers to the presence of nauseous feeling during first trimester of pregnancy. It is usually because of increased hormones in pregnancy. Morning sickness can occur at any time of the day and it stops spontaneously after the 12th week of pregnancy. Morning sickness is not harmful to your baby but if you have excessive vomiting and if you are not able to eat anything you may have hyperemesis gravidarum. Hyperemesis if not treated can be harmful to your baby because of electrolyte imbalance.

Tips to be Morning Sickness are:

  • Eat small meals rich in carbohydrates
  • Drink small amount of fluids to avoid dehydration
  • Get plenty of rest
  • Eat whatever you feel like eating
  • Do not lie down immediately after eating
  • Do not skip meals
  • Avoid spicy and oily food
  • Ginger or lemon drink will help you to have relief from nausea
  • Ask someone else to cook for you
