15 studies have been conducted and the results found that people gain weight because of depression and they have about 55% more chances when compares to people with normal weight. A few reasons due to which obesity can lead to depression are:

  • Wrong eating patterns
  • Eating disorder
  • Physical discomfort of being obese

Also, the study found that depressed people have the risk of becoming obese because:

  • High level of stress hormones i.e. cortisol may cane substances in fat cells that accumulate fat in the belly
  • People who are depressed they feel too blue to eat properly and they are more prone to gain weight.

The most common problem seen in people who are overweight like high BP increased the level of cholesterol and fat in the blood .High BP is common in people who are overweight or obese than those who are underweight. Overweight & obesity are also closely related to diabetes and 90 percent of people with diabetes are overweight. The high blood sugar level makes people prone to metabolic syndrome and untreated diabetes can also lead to kidney failure, blindness & foot, and leg amputation. Diabetes is one of the major causes of death in the US.

Knees and hips can also affect because of obesity so the stress placed on the joints by very extra weight. To recover damaged joints, joint replacement surgery may not be advisable because for obese person the artificial joint has higher risk of damage
