Laughter is not only an expression of smile on face, but it involves working together of group of muscles of face, lungs and abdominal muscles. When we laugh loudly it bring many changes in body. Endorphins (happy hormones) are released in brain that brings many changes in body, which give feeling of happiness and being healthy. Laughter can even be created artificially, you may find it forceful initially but it also triggers same changes and generates feeling of happiness. We shall not miss any chance to smile and laugh aloud. It has both immediate benefits and long lasting effects on body.

Effect on mood: Laughter decreases levels of stress hormones and increases endorphins, so immediately with laughter it makes you feel relaxed and free of stress both physically and mentally.

Effect on heart and lungs: Laughter increases our inhalation of fresh air and oxygen and stimulates our heart and lungs and increases blood supply to these organs and so protect from heart attack and also helps in control of blood pressure.

Effect on digestion: Laughter also causes use of abdominal muscles, which stimulates the abdominal organs and increase their blood supply, thus improving digestion.

Antidepressant: As laughter increases endorphins and decreases stress hormones, so act as natural antidepressant. It also builds the resilience power of our body.

Analgesic effect: Endorphins are natural opium like molecules, synthesised in body in response to laughter and smile, which act as a pain killer. This thing we usually observe, while watching our favourite comedy programme, we tend to forget about pain.

Immunity: If we laugh frequently, it makes our body healthy and protects us from many diseases. It also builds our immunity and fighting power against diseases and infections.

Sleep: As laughter improves our mood and relaxes our body and mind, it also has positive effect on our sleep. It improves the quality of sleep.

Smile is contagious: If we smile with someone, it stimulates unconscious automatic response area in that person, so quick response will be a smile in return. Smile is contagious, so makes others also feel happy with your smile and humour.
