When a person is suffering from dengue, platelets become the main concern. So in order to increase the blood platelet counts one should focus on the following:

  • Drink plenty of fluids – Fresh fruit juices, soups, fresh coconut water, pomegranate, pineapple juices. Oral- rehydration therapy is best to overcome weakness & bring the fever down.
  • Papaya is the best – As per various studies, have indicated that the juice of the leaves of theCarica papaya plant from the family Caricaceae could help to increase the platelet levels in these patients. Therefore the extract of two fresh crushed papaya leaves and Giloy leaf extract can be given to the patient and is considered a good home remedy for the treatment of dengue fever.
  • Go Green – Eat plenty of green leafy vegetables in the form of soup or salads or cooked form.
  • Go easy on your stomach – Diet should be easy to digest as there is loss of appetite, so nutritionally dense foods should be given like mix veg khicadi or dalia, porridge, dal, rice, suji, bread. To enhance the flavor of food one can add fresh herbs like basil, tulsi, coriander, garlic, ginger & lemon.
  • Eat fresh fruits – Incorporate good amount of all kinds of fruits in your diet.
  • Check the milk – Replacing cow’s milk to goat milk is also considered to be beneficial in increasing the platelets
  • Let the oil go – Avoid oily, spicy & fried foods and processed foods as much as possible

Above all, take necessary precautions to maintain proper hygiene to keep the surroundings and environment clean. Avoid water to stagnate, keep your water utensils covered all the time. Also apply mosquito repellents & wear long sleeves & fully covered clothes.
