Why do you have to Brush your Teeth?

Why do you have to Brush your Teeth?

Cavities can be prevented by removing plaque, a bacterial transparent layer that coats the teeth. The best way to remove plaque is by brushing your teeth two times a day and flossing once in a day. Brushing stimulates the gums that help the gums to keep healthy and prevents gum diseases.  Flossing and brushing are the two very important things one should practice in order to keep teeth and gums healthy routinely.

Dental Hygiene Tips:

  • Choose your toothpaste carefully – Toothpaste contains abrasives, detergents, and foaming agents. Fluoride, the most common active ingredient in toothpaste, is what prevents cavities. So you should always be sure your toothpaste contains fluoride.
  • Be aware of cavities- After the intake of food, bacteria present in your mouth breaks down sugar that is remaining on your teeth. As they break the sugar, the sugar turns into acids that cause damage to the outer coating of teeth, commonly known as enamel and creates holes in it, which is known as cavities. When you do not brush your teeth properly, the bacteria build up a clear sticky film on your teeth, know as plaque. If you regularly brush your teeth, brushing helps to remove plaque and also prevents its formation around the teeth. It is very important to avoid plaque formations as it can lead to cavities.
  • Brush, Floss, and Rinse – To avoid these potential problems, be sure to make regular brushing, flossing, and rinsing with a fluoride rinse part of your daily routine. Dentists recommend brushing for two minutes, twice per day and flossing once per day!
  • Go to a Dentist – The main reason for going to the dentist regularly after every 6 months is prevention. The aim is to prevent gum disease, tooth decay and other disorders that can increase the risk of getting unhealthy teeth and mouth.

In addition to forming good daily brushing habits, it is also important to have your teeth professionally cleaned. Professional cleanings are done at your dentist’s office by a dental professional. This type of cleaning can help remove hard deposits on your teeth that daily brushing cannot remove. It also helps prevent gum disease. You should have your teeth professionally cleaned twice each year if your teeth are healthy, and more often if you have specific health concerns that affect your oral health.
