Babies are very particularly prone to dry, irritated skin in winter. A number of factors play a part in causing dryness of your baby’s skin. Central heating is the most important and prominent factor that tends to make the atmosphere dry and can dry out your baby’s skin. The hands and face of the baby are particularly prone to getting cold. This can cause dryness and chapping. Baby’s skin care can be very difficult in the winter with central heating of the house, icy winds, and itchy clothing.

Tips to Avoid Dryness of your Baby’s Skin:

There is a number of factors that play important roles in making the baby’s skin drier in winter. However, there are ways through which you can ensure that your baby’s skin remains supple and soft.

  • Bathe right – Always bathe your baby in every 2 days if it is too cold and make sure that the bathing time is short. If you are not bathing your baby, wipe him or her with a warm towel and change his clothing quickly.
  • Use a lotion – Apply gentle baby lotion or baby skin moisturizer immediately after a bath of the baby so that the skin of your bundle of joy is protected from dryness.
  • Massage is great – Give your baby at least 2 – 3 times massages daily. This will help the oil and moisture to penetrate into the skin and will help keep it smooth and supple.
  • Care for the lips and the cheeks – The baby might experience chapped or cracked lips and cheeks. Apply lip care gel or cream as prescribed by a pediatrician on lips and cheek every 2 – 3 hours.
  • The nose needs care too – Gently apply the gel or petroleum jelly as prescribed by your pediatrician inside the baby’s nose. Mostly the nose of the baby dries and the baby feels discomfort. If untreated it leads to bleeding from nose too.
  • Make the baby drink adequate amounts of water – Always make sure that your baby drinks lukewarm water according to his or her age so that the skin remains hydrated.
  • Opt for a humidifier – If you are residing in a cold place and you have to put the heater on for most hours, keep a humidifier so that the dryness in the atmosphere is lessened.
