Zumba is a high intensity dance fitness program. In Spanish slang, it means “to move fast and have fun”. It is a great way to stay fit while having fun.Zumba involves dance and aerobic movements performed to energetic music. The moves are incorporates from various dance forms. Squats and lunges are also included it.Zumba classes are usually about an hour long and are taught by instructors licensed. In one Zumba class a person can burn around 500-1000 calories depending on the energy the individual puts into the class.

Advantages of Zumba:

  • It is a full body workout. Since Zumba involves movement of the entire body like your arms, to your shoulders, to your feet. You will get a full-body workout that doesn’t even feel like work.
  • It promotes weight loss and maintains a healthy body weight.
  • It helps in building your endurance.
  • It is an efficient workout in increasing aerobic capacity which is a measure of cardiovascular fitness.
  • It decreases blood pressure.
  • It is easy and adaptable. Since you are moving on your own to the beat of the music this workout can be one by anyone at their own intensity.
  • It is social as it is a group activity.
  • It can also increase your pain threshold.
  • It can improve your quality of life.

Disadvantages of Zumba:

  • Since it is a high intensity workout, there are chances of injury by tripping, slipping or falling down or simply spraining a muscle.
  • It might be a little tiring for some people.

Keep in mind before going to Zumba class:

  • Wear lose comfortable clothes.
  • Wear comfortable shoes.
  • Modify moves accordingly.
