35 yr old successfully conceives second time through IUI treatment – Paras Bliss Doctors battle Thyroid complications and deliver a healthy baby through caesarean
Doctors at Paras Bliss Hospital Panchkula, Specialised Women’s and Children Hospital, helped a 35 yr old woman to successfully conceive her second baby through Intrauterine insemination (IUI). The procedure was performed under the guidance of leading gynaecologist, fertility expert and high risk pregnancy specialist – Dr SK Gambhir, Sr Consultant, Obstetrics & Gynecology at Paras Bliss Hospital Panchkula. Dr Gambhir even managed the thyroid complications of the patient along with its adverse effects on fertility and pregnancy.
Dimple 35 yr old a resident of Solan in Himachal Pradesh, had earlier conceived her first child at the age of 28 yrs through IUI Treatment. Her earlier issues with fertility were due to Poly cystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) and obesity. After conceiving and delivering her first child she wanted a break of at least 5 yrs between her kids and hence post a few years she decided to have another baby, but again faced issues with her fertility.
Dimple shares, “I wanted to conceive normally and we tried for a number of months, however as the time was passing we started to realize that we are losing out on time as I was getting older. The fertility issue was related to the ovulation. I was prescribed ovulation medication. Post a few preliminary investigations it was highlighted that I was suffering from Thyroid. Dr SK Gambhir shared with me the issues associated with the ailment and put me on a strict medical regime for the same.”
According to Dr SK Gambhir “Intrauterine insemination (IUI) is a type of artificial insemination for treating infertility. Sperm that have been washed and concentrated are placed directly in your uterus around the time your ovary releases one or more eggs to be fertilized. Older types of artificial insemination placed the sperm in the vagina. While this was easier, it was not as successful as the current procedure. The hoped-for outcome of intrauterine insemination is for the sperm to swim into the fallopian tube and fertilize a waiting egg, resulting in a normal pregnancy. Depending on the reasons for infertility, IUI can be coordinated with your normal cycle or with fertility medications. IN Dimple’s case we had to manage her Thyroid and other medical complications to ensure that the IUI is successful.”
She was also put on hormonal therapy and the combination of the same ensured that she conceived successfully. Post a 36 week medical regime she was admitted in the hospital and was recommended a caesarean section for her delivery.
“Patients who are older and have conceived through IUI or IVF are recommended caesarean section as the best way to deliver their baby. This ensures handling for any complication during the pregnancy” shares Dr Gambhir.
Dimple later delivered a healthy baby boy. She shares, “For any expecting mother the road to motherhood is bumpy. You face numerous complications and challenges, but the journey can be easy with the help of a specialist who can explain you everything and handle all your apprehensions. Dr SK Gambhir was not just a doctor but a friend on whom I could always depend on. I thank her for her dedication and compassionate care.”
