Patna: “There are only 2,500 urological surgeons in the country and Bihar has just 25. It is not possible for these 25 surgeons to treat 11 crore patients in the state. Due to lack of specialized training general surgeons are not able to cope with the complicated urological disease. This situation arises primarily because of the shortage of experienced urological surgeons in the country”, said Dr. Ajay Kumar, Director, Department of Urology Nephrology and transplantation, PARAS HMRI Hospital, Patna during a press conference held in the hospital premises. Dr Ajay is a reputed urologist in India and one of the best urologists, Uro specialists in Bihar has joined Paras HMRI Hospital Patna. He specializes in urosciences with emphasis on issues related to Prostate, Urinary Bladder, His areas of specialization also include – Prostate & Urinary Cancer Treatment & Surgery, Uretic & Renal Calculus Surgeries, Male Andrology – Erectile Dysfunction, Penile Prosthesis, Urinary Incontinence Surgery & Management along with Transplantation surgeries.
Dr. Kumar was of the view that problems related to urinary disorders occur more often in women than in men. He said that surgeons, through the urinal tube, treat stones in the kidney, cancer, and diseases in the urine sac. In case people increase their intake of water, a lot of their urinary diseases will be dispelled.
Dr. Kumar received his FRCS degree in the year 1978-79 and began practicing in England in 1983. He returned to India in 1984 and established the Palm View Hospital in Patna. A renowned urologist in Patna, Dr. Kumar received his MBBS degree from the Prince of Wales College (Patna Medical College today). He has dedicated his life towards providing healthcare services, particularly to the poor and needy. He has been running awareness campaigns on issues like ‘Beti Bachao, Desh Bachao’, ‘Anaemia Free Children’, to name a few.
Dr. Kumar has held various reputed positions such as the President of the Urological Society of India (2008-09); President, Indian Medical Association (2007-08); Vice President, Commonwealth Medical Association (2007-10); Member, Executive Committee, Medical Council of India (2001-05); Member, Speciality Advisory Board (Urology), National Board of Examination (NBI) (2001-04) and Member, Board of Governors, Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Patna (1998-2006). Over the years Dr. Kumar has organized several health fairs in different parts of the country to help provide reasonable treatment to patients.
