For Girish, a small time worker in a factory, every day was a blessing. Suffering from adrenal tumor, he was told by one of the best hospitals in Delhi NCR that his days are numbered. The only bread winner for the family, Girish was not just depressed but harassed with life. “It felt like sand was slipping out of my hand and every second being lost was costing my life. I went to most of the best doctors of the city and consulted the best oncologists, however each one had the same story to tell, until Dr Indu Bansal at Paras Hospitals, Gurgaon.”
He adds, “Just when we had lost all hope, Dr Indu Bansal, counseled me and made me feel that I have nothing to lose. I have to feel strong emotionally. Only if I am strongly mentally can I overcome the most difficult obstacle in my life.”
According to Dr Indu Bansal, Consultant Oncology, Paras Hospitals, Gurgaon, “Girish’s medical condition was advanced. He was suffering from stage 4 cancer. His CT scan highlighted that his cancer was malignant. His adrenal tumor had spread to both lobes of the liver. He was detected with Adrenal Sarcoma. He had lost a lot of weight and had also lost his appetite.”
She highlight, “He had gone through multiple cycles of chemotherapy, however the same was not making a difference to him, in fact the doctors were concerned about the affect of the high potency drugs on the patient. He had lost hair and the treatment plan was adversely affecting his health. We at Paras understood one major aspect- we needed to revamp his medical treatment plan and at the same time boost his morale. A high spirit and a positive mind always helps in cancer treatment.”
Dr Indu Bansal with her team of experts made a radical change in the treatment protocol for Girish. She made him go through 3 cycles of chemotherapy and they put him on oral tablets only. He had to take the same only once a day. The positive mind set and the regular morale boosting was helping Girish. His reports highlighted that the tumor was shrinking.
Girish shares, “ It was really surprising that Dr Indu in my condition just gave me one tablet to eat, once a day. Prior to her treatment I was popping pills 5 times a day. The most surprising aspect was my results. They showed that my tumor shrunk to half. In one month I had regained my appetite and weight. It is not less than a miracle. Today it has been 8 years post treatment and I have joined my work back. Earlier I was a suffering, depressed patient looking at numbered days. However today I am just opposite of what I had expected.”
Dr Indu shares, “ More that the medicines, it is the game of the positive mindset that affects the health of a patient. It is our duty as medical professionals to empower the patient. Suffering from cancer is bad, but letting it break your spirit is the worst. All we did with Girish is make him confident that he will win over evil and overcome all hardships. Every patient needs a little push, the family and his environment complete the healing cycle.”
