For Ranjit Kumar the last few months have been the toughest – a test of time, courage, emotion and intuition. Diagnosed with Brain Tumor, he had accepted that God has decided his time. The 56 yr old Assistant Engineer at the Irrigation Department in Patna had gone in depression and was experiencing anxiety attacks along with the symptoms of brain tumor. However today after a radical surgery at Paras Patna under the able guidance of Dr Mukund Prasad and other team of doctors, he is healthy and looking forward to a bright future.
According to Mr Ranjit, it all started a few months back. “I used to have severe headaches, fainting spells and nausea. I couldn’t understand what was happening to me. Post recommendation, I consulted Dr Abhishek, Consultant Neurology at Paras Patna. An MRI revealed the dreadful news that I had a brain tumor. This news was not just hard for me to handle, but also shook my entire family.”
The only bread winner for the family of six, Mr Ranjit was perplexed. Some of his friends and relatives suggested that he should go to Delhi, Mumbai or Vellore for treatment. “I was very double minded. Who would like to go ahead with surgery? The word alone scares you,” shares Ranjit.
Dr Abhishek shares, “Ranjit’s case was at an advanced stage. He came with left sided weakness, altered behaviour, headache and vomiting. He required immediate surgery along with radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Immediate decisions and actions were required, but his fickle mindedness and the unnecessary suggestions were delaying treatment and affecting his health.”
Post a few days, Ranjit and his family decided to opt for Paras Patna. Dr Mukund Prasad, Consultant Neurosurgery, Paras Patna , performed the radical surgery. The complicated procedure was not just successful in excising the tumor, but also improved his left sided weakness and behaviour. Today Ranjit is free of any headache and shall be able to resume work soon.
According to Dr Mukund Prasad, “It is sad that people despite having all the facilities in Patna opt for going to Delhi, Mumbai or Kolkatta. Such decisions put emotional, physical and financial strain on the family and the patient. Paras Patna has come with the mission to provide affordable, accessible and quality healthcare to the common man of Bihar. Each department is state of the art with the best technology and medical expertise. We are the only hospital in Bihar to with comprehensive radiology services – PET CT, MRI, CT , X Ray. We are also the only neurosurgery department in Bihar to have CUSA Technology and interdepartmental support from Paras Cancer Centre.”
Ranjit has to go through 6 weeks of radiation along with oral chemotherapy to prevent the tumour from coming back. You ask him about how he feels, he smiles and says, “Enlightened! Don’t they say that the best things are at home? One of them saved me.”
