Paras Hospitals Gurgaon launches Brain Tumor Support Group – Jeet – open to Patients from all Hospitals of India

Paras Hospitals, Gurgaon under the guidance of leading neurosurgeon of India, Dr (Prof) VS Mehta, Chairman Neurosciences, Paras Health has launched a Brain Tumor Support Group – Jeet. The group is open to all brain tumor patients from all hospitals of India. The group aims at creating a platform for the brain tumor patients and their attendants to connect so that they can share their stories of motivation and their fight against brain cancer.

The support group event is scheduled for August 11, 2018, at Paras Hospitals, Auditorium from 11 am to 1 pm. Highlighting the importance of the group, Dr. (Prof) VS Mehta, Padmashree and former Chief – Neurosciences Center, AIIMS New Delhi shares, “Such patient groups are essential and should be made mandatory in all super specialty hospitals. Brain Tumor is a type of cancer that affects the brain. The fight against cancer for any patient is full of trail and tribulations. When patients and their attendants join this group they connect instantly and each patient is affected by a positive survivor story of even one patient. Each meeting comes as a beacon of hope, motivation, and inspiration for the patient, pushing them to never give up.”

Dr. Mehta also states, “At present although India is regarded as one of the best countries for affordable super specialty care, however in India also awareness about neurological ailments and complications is minimal. Numerous patients come to us in the last stages when their signs and symptoms begin to affect their everyday life. We need to make people aware that their health is important and ignoring any abnormality will only complicate their condition.”

To highlight the CSR aspect of the hospital and the group, Dr. Mehta has announced free consultation from neurosurgeons every 2nd and 4th Wednesday of every month between 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM at Paras Hospitals, Gurgaon. He shares, “ Anyone who wants a second opinion about their treatment plan or wants to consult a super specialist but lacks the financial support is open to consult for free. This initiative is to ensure that all patients receive the right treatment.” The free consultation facility and the group registration is open to all patients of any hospital.

Until now the group has been successful in enrolling more than 300 patients under its umbrella. However the aim to also enroll more number of patients.

Dr  (Prof) Sumit Sinha, Director Neurosurgery and Spine at Paras Hospitals, Gurgaon and former Professor, Neurosciences & Gamma Knife – Department of Neurosurgery AIIMS New Delhi shares, “ We want to formulate a group which is open to all patients – of any hospital, strata, and financial background. We want them to connect, converge and understand the nuances of a brain tumor. Once a suffering patient sees a healthy patient and learns about his journey, he becomes confident. Each survivor supports 5 patients and with this we want a helping chain to be made where help and support are based on humanitarian grounds.”
