Paras Hospitals Gurgaon launches super specialized OPD facilities for Cancer Patients in Bareilly

Bareilly, 22nd July 2017: Paras Hospitals Gurgaon launched their first super specialized cancer OPD with a tie-up with Glean Cancer Centre. The OPD facilities will be led by highly skilled doctors with expertise in all kinds of cancer treatments. The centre will extend the most upgraded cancer care to benefit the residents of Bareilly and surrounding cities, not only in affordable treatment solutions but also in curbing expenses for a family who would have otherwise had to travel to a major city to get their loved one cured. The team of doctors is led by Dr.Piyush Kumar Agrawal, Consultant – Head, Neck and Breast Oncological Surgery, Paras Hospitals Gurgaon.

The centre extends support to the doctors through state-of the-art infrastructure, facilities, and support staff in the newly formed unit.The OPD clinic, positioned as a Center of Excellence, will be held once a month and all surgeries will be conducted in Paras Hospital and pre and post operative care will be followed at Glean Cancer center by Dr. Ritu Bhutani, Consultant, Clinical Oncology, Glean Cancer Centre.

Among various diseases, cancer has become a big threat to human beings globally. It is estimated that 14.5 lakh people are living with the disease, with over 7 lakh new cases being registered every year. Breast cancer accounts for 27 per cent of all cancers in women in India. Due to lack of facilities in smaller towns and cities people have to travel long distances to get treatment for their loved ones. Our driving factor has been the vision to provide tertiary healthcare in smaller towns and cities. The fact that this reduces the financial burden on families where a person suffers from cancer is just an outcome of having high-class treatment solutions at your doorstep.”

Patient Sapan Kumar Verma, 41 years old hailing from Bareilly, was presented to Dr.Piyush with ulcer left buccal mucosa over the past 3 months with difficulty in opening his mouth. Kumar was examined, investigated and diagnosed to be a case of cancer of buccal mucosa, a type of oral cancer that is more commonly found in men and contracted due to high intake of tobacco and alcohol. The patient was surgically treated and is required to follow up with the doctor in OPD over the next few months regularly which will come down gradually over time.

Yet another patient from Bareilly who was diagnosed at the OPD was 55-year old Mrs. Mehroon Nisa, who was referred to Dr. Piyush with difficulty in swallowing over two months and change in voice over 15 days. The patient was investigated and found to be diagnosed with a growth in her larynx. Treatment in this patient included Total laryngectomy which is a surgical procedure and she is recovering now. She will also have to follow up with the doctor regularly for a prescribed time frame before her visits will gradually decrease.

There are about 2.5 million people living with the disease, with over 7 lakh new patient Registered every year in India alone. Amongst the types, oral and lung cancer are the most prevalent in men, while women see cervical and breast cancer the most. India is likely to have

17.3 lakh new cases of cancer and over 8.8 lakh cancer-related deaths by 2020, projects a study conducted the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) in 2016.
