About Dr. Hamza Wani

Dr. Hamza Wani is a highly experienced Surgical Gastroenterologist and currently serves as the Associate Director of Surgical Gastroenterology at Paras Health, Srinagar. With over 12 years of extensive clinical and academic experience, he specializes in the management of complex gastrointestinal, liver, pancreatic, and biliary disorders, with a strong emphasis on minimally invasive and laparoscopic surgical techniques.

He completed his MBBS from Acharya Shri Chander College of Medical Sciences, Jammu and Kashmir, and went on to earn his Master’s degree (MS) in General and Minimal Access Surgery from Government Medical College, Srinagar. He later pursued a super-specialty (DrNB) in Surgical Gastroenterology and Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary (HPB) Surgery from Apollo Hospital, Bhubaneswar, one of India’s leading centers for surgical training.

Over the course of his career, Dr. Hamza has worked in several renowned institutions across India. He has held academic positions as Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgical Gastroenterology at AIIMS Bhopal, and later in the Department of Surgery at Government Medical College, Jammu. He has also served as a Senior Resident at top institutes including AIIMS Bhubaneswar and Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Srinagar, where he gained hands-on experience in high-volume centers dealing with complex GI and HPB cases.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Hamza is actively involved in medical teaching and research. He has contributed to various national and international publications and participates regularly in academic conferences and workshops as a faculty member.

  • Presented a paper and organized a state level update on carcinoma stomach in June 2017.
  • Presented “Award paper” at Indian Chapter of IHPBA, Pune, Feb 2018. 
  • Presented a paper and organized a state level update on Colorectal cancer in May 2018.
  • Travel grant awardee 30th JSHBPS (Japanese society of Hepato Pancreato Biliary Surgery) 2018, Yokohama, Japan. 
  • Organized a one day seminar on “safe cholecystectomy” in Sep 2018. 
  • Awarded third prize in national level video presentation competition during the IAGES 2019.
  • Travel grant awardee (Free paper presentation) at the 119th Japanese Sur- gical Society 2019, Osaka, Japan.
  • Travel grant awardee (poster presentation) at the 31st JSHBPS (Japanese society of Hepato Pancreato Biliary Surgery) 2019, Takamatsu city, Kagawa, Japan
  • “Award poster” presentation at the 7th Biennial Congress of the A-PHPBA (Asian Pacific Hepato Pancreato Biliary Association) 2019, Seoul, South Korea.
  • Award video presentation “Laparoscopic cholecystectomy in EHPVO”, Indian chapter of IHPBA, Bhubaneshwar 2020 Jan.
