Hundreds of mithilanchal people attended the Free Health Check up Camp. Heart disease is the rapidly growing disease in the Bihar as well as in the country.
World Heart Day takes place on 29th September every year and is the World Heart Federation‘s and the world’s biggest platform for raising awareness about cardiovascular disease, including heart disease and stroke. Keeping in view of this a free health check-up camp was organised at Paras Global Hospital Darbhanga for patients suffering from diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
Famous heart disease specialist Dr Jyoti Prakash Karn, Dr A K Gupta and Diabetologist Dr Ajay Kumar Lal Das on the occasion treated patients free at the camp which include free ECG and blood sugar tests.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Karn stressed upon the relation between cardiovascular disease and diabetes as he said that those suffering from diabetes have more chances to contract cardiovascular disease.
Dr Karn said that excessive formation of glucose in our body leave a bad impact on cardiac veins as a result fat starts accumulating there. He said , ‘Those suffering from diabetes have also greater chance of having higher blood pressure and cholesterol.’
He at the same time advised those people who are not suffering from diabetes to exercise daily and keep a control on their weight as obese people have more chances to have cardiovascular diseases. Dr Karn also asked the people to stop the habit of smoking and liquor intake to keep themselves away from the heart disease. He informed that due to prohibition imposed in the state there has been 25% downfall seen in the occurrence of cardiovascular diseases in Bihar.
If you have diabetes, it is essential that you control your blood sugar, cholesterol and blood pressure which will reduce the chances of contracting cardiovascular disease, Dr Karn said adding, ‘One should exercise daily, quit smoking and consume balanced diet coupled with taking regular medicines prescribed by your doctor.’
One factor that largely contributes to heart disease is stress, Dr Karn said as many people resort to smoking and taking liquor to ward off stress which proves to be detrimental as smoking and consuming liquor increases the risk of cardiovascular disease. According to a survey, working for long hours in office increases the risk of heart disease while other factors that contribute to increase in the incidence of heart disease are lack of sleep and bad food habits.
Dr Karn advised to keep oneself hooked up to some kind of games or exercise to remain healthy and at the same time also suggested proper sleep and balanced diet.
The best way to keep heart diseases away is to have regular check-ups of heart and diabetes so that the disease can be diagnosed at early stage and treatment starts as early as possible, Dr Karn said.
